The Strongest Quranic Verse for Protection

When discussing protective supplications, one verse stands above all others. Ayat-ul-Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:255) is regarded as the greatest verse in the Holy Quran. It declares Allah’s absolute sovereignty and authority:

“Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence…”

Reciting Ayat-ul-Kursi in the morning provides 24-hour protection from all forms of harm, and when recited at home, it keeps your abode safe from Shaytan (the devil) . The Prophet (ﷺ) said that whoever recites Ayat-ul-Kursi after every obligatory prayer will remain under Allah’s protection until the next prayer . It is also highly recommended to recite it before going to sleep, as it ensures that a guardian from Allah protects you throughout the night .

The Shield of the Last Two Surahs

Closely following Ayat-ul-Kursi in strength are the two chapters known as Al-Mu’awwadhatayn: Surah Al-Falaq (The Daybreak) and Surah An-Nas (Mankind). Together, they form a complete spiritual armour. The Prophet (ﷺ) used to recite them every night, blow into his hands, and then wipe them over his body to seek Allah’s refuge from all evil .

  • Surah Al-Falaq (113:1–5) seeks protection from the evil of what He has created, including the darkness of night, sorcery, and the envy of the jealous .
  • Surah An-Nas (114:1–6) seeks refuge from the whisperings of Shaytan and the harm of both jinn and mankind .

Reciting these three times every morning and evening, along with Surah Al-Ikhlas, creates an impenetrable fortress around the believer .

Morning & Evening Duas for Daily Safety

The morning and evening adhkar are among the most comprehensive duas for protection. The Prophet (ﷺ) never missed them, and they are our first line of defence against the challenges of the day.

One of the most powerful is the following supplication, which should be recited three times every morning and evening:

Bismillahilladhi la yadurru ma’as-mihi shay’un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama’i wa huwas-Sami’ul ‘Aleem.
Meaning: “In the Name of Allah, with Whose Name nothing in the earth or the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”

The Prophet (ﷺ) guaranteed that nothing would harm the person who recites this three times in the morning and three times in the evening . It is a complete and powerful guarantee of safety from all unseen and visible dangers.

Another comprehensive morning dua is:

Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘afwaka wa ‘afiyata fi dunya wal-akhirah.
Meaning: “O Allah, I ask You for Your pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter.”

Duas for Protection from the Evil Eye (Nazar)

The evil eye is a reality affirmed by the Prophet (ﷺ), who said, “The evil eye is real” (Sahih Muslim) . It refers to harm caused by envy or admiration, whether intentional or not.

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek Allah’s protection for his grandsons, Hasan and Husayn, with these words:

U’idhukuma bi kalimatillahit-tammah min kulli shaytanin wa hammah wa min kulli ‘aynin lammah.
Meaning: “I seek refuge for you both in the perfect words of Allah from every devil, poisonous creature, and every evil, envious eye.”

He then told them that their forefather Prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام) used to recite the same words for his sons Isma’il and Ishaq . This dua is especially recommended for children.

For oneself, the dua from the Quran is powerful: “Rabbi a’udhu bika min hamazatish-shayateen, wa a’udhu bika rabbi an yahdurun” (Surah Al-Mu’minun 23:97–98). It means, “My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the whisperings of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they come near me” .

Seeking Refuge from Calamities and Illness

When facing crises, illnesses, or major trials, the Prophet (ﷺ) taught us specific supplications. One comprehensive dua seeks protection from all directions:

Allahumma’h-fazni min bayni yadayya, wa min khalfi, wa ‘an yamini wa ‘an shimali, wa min fawqi, wa a’udhu bi ‘azamatika an ughtala min tahti.
Meaning: “O Allah, protect me from my front, from behind, from my right, from my left, and from above me. I seek refuge in Your greatness from being struck down from beneath me.”

This dua is reported in Ibn Majah and is an essential tool when you feel surrounded by danger.

For general well-being, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say:

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan, wal-‘ajzi wal-kasal, wal-bukhli wal-jubn, wa dal’id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal.
Meaning: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and grief, from weakness and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from the burden of debt, and from being overpowered by men.”

This dua, recorded in Sahih Bukhari, addresses both emotional and physical vulnerabilities, making it a perfect addition to your daily routine.

Making Duas for Protection a Daily Habit

You have equipped yourself with authentic, powerful, and comprehensive duas for protection. The key now is consistency. Recite Ayat-ul-Kursi after every salah. Recite the three Quls (Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas) three times each in the morning and evening. Protect your children with the words Prophet Ibrahim used for his sons.

These supplications are not merely words; they are your conversation with the Lord of the Worlds. When you recite them with sincerity and trust, Allah becomes your guardian. May He protect you, your family, and your home from all harm and grant you lasting peace, Ameen.
